Cheerful Children’s Rooms

Decorating a child’s room can be a delightful experience. You can let your imagination run riot as you play with a myriad colors, textures and design elements. You need to remember that a child’s room must be light, airy and cheerful. It should be an environment that motivates a child to laugh, play and study with equal ease.

You can choose design elements based on the child’s age. Since really young children love cartoon and fairytale characters, you can use printed curtains, bed linen, posters and rugs that echo the theme. Slightly older children are more into superheroes, sports cars and sports themes. Whereas teenagers are into pop stars and fashion. Create themes using these elements for a winning combination.

Who said you cannot have your cake and eat it too? In the case of home décor and kitchen gardening, you actually can! I am sure you would love to have your own kitchen garden and enjoy your own clean, organic home grown food, if not for the space constraints in a tiny city apartment. Here’s a solution, any corner, windowsill or table top can be used to plant trees from the kitchen garden. You can plant coriander, chilly, mint, mustard leaves, celery, dill and many others inside your house. Most of these plants have a very refreshing aroma and will also decorate your house beautiful.

Add Warmth To Your Kitchen Decor

More and more people are eating their meals in the kitchen these days and tend to congregate there even with visitors. Hence, the kitchen needs to be designed to create a warm and welcoming environment.

You can start by deciding on a focal piece around which everything else can be planned. It can be the gas range, an interesting chest of drawers or a breakfast bar. Or even an interesting spice rack. Try to use bright colors for the cabinets complemented by matching crockery and gleaming pots and pans. Use roller blinds or frilly curtains according to the theme you choose. Add accents such as condiment containers and vases of colorful flowers.

Ideas to dress up a wall

Walls are usually of a single color and can look drab if there is nothing on them to focus our attention on. However, it does not mean that you need to spend hundreds of dollars to dress up your wall. One of the most popular option emerging in these economically hard times is custom designing your wall with your family pictures. You can make a tight grouping of your favorite pictures or you can spread them out all over the wall. You use pictures of different sizes to add variety and an element of design to your picture wall, or you can even make a collage of your favorite pictures and dress you wall with it.

Exotic Interiors For Your Home

Achieving the exotic look in your home is quite easy, and need not create clutter. You can aim for a minimalist look and still have a touch of the exotic. Persian rugs on the floor, brocade cushion covers, a Laughing Buddha, Chinese or Japanese paper lanterns and brass statues from India all serve the purpose.

Even stylized, streamlined furniture can be combined with exotica to add a touch of glamour. Artifacts from different countries, preferably with a planned theme, can complement each other and create an interesting environment. The right design elements can lift your home out of the ordinary and set it apart as something special.

The right use of lighting in your home can make a world of difference. Used cleverly, lighting can transform your home from a dark, gloomy space to a bright, cheerful and welcoming home. First plan the general lighting, then light up dark corners to create definition and dimension. Lamps pointed upwards can increase the height of the ceiling and increase the illusion of space.

Avoid overdoing the lighting; you could end up with too much of a glare. Use accent lighting in specific areas to achieve the effect you want. And remember, light colored walls reflect light and brighten up your space.

If you have to decorate a small closed space, especially one without windows, but wish to give it sense of openness, here is a great idea: use a painting or tapestry which shows a landscape or some other open space, giving the visual sense of space outside of the room. However, you need to ensure that the design on the painting or tapestry is clear and uncluttered. If you use a busy landscape, it will create a sense of heaviness and crowdedness, and create the exact opposite effect than the one you wished to create. Also use light and bright colors as opposed to dark, heavy ones.

Redecorating a Room Inexpensively

Redecorating a room can be an expensive affair if you want to go the whole hog. But, you can refresh the look of any room without it being a burden on your pocket. Instead of painting the walls of a room, you can choose a theme and color all the fabric items in the room like cushion covers, curtains, etc. It is a lot easier and cheaper to color fabric than it is to repaint walls. You can spray paint other articles like lamp shades and wall hangings to match the color scheme of the room and form a cohesive new theme for the room.

Space is at a premium in most apartments these days. However, there are many ways to give the illusion of space even when you can’t make the space larger physically. To begin with, stick to light colors on the walls, flooring and curtains. Offset it with splashes of bright color in your cushions and throw rugs.

Furnish your space with light weight furniture such as cane. Go for the minimalist look. Keep the look uncluttered, if not spartan. Try to have built-in shelves and wardrobes, and even folding tables. Avoid large paintings that can dwarf the room. And use large mirrors to add depth to your space.
